3 Step Guide To Combating Candida

Yeast infections are irritating, annoying and can be painful if allowed to progress to an advanced stage.  They also tend to flare up without warning in recurrent cycles.  Sufferers have the concern that their localized condition may become chronic with the Candida yeast that is causing the infection spreading to affect the body systemically.  Infections are extremely common, particularly among women. It is estimated that three quarters of all women will develop an infection at some point during their lives.  Men are also affected, but less so, with perhaps 20-30% of men developing an infection.

Most sufferers start with an over the counter antifungal product that they apply externally to the areas of the body that have an infection.  While these products and homeopathic remedies such as Yeastrol, can help to alleviate the symptoms of the disease they do little to address the root causal factors that result in a Candida growth.  Many of these come down to dietary and lifestyle factors.   In this article we explore how to get rid of a yeast infection permanently rather than just relying on a temporary relief.

1. Weaken the Candida by making dietary adjustments.  As Candida feeds on sugars, the first step is to eliminate as much sugar from the diet as possible,.  This means cutting out all cakes, sweets, alcoholic beverages and carbohydrates (these convert to sugars as part of the digestive process).  Its also a good idea to cut down on fruit and fruit juices.

2. Attack the Candida with a range of antifungal foods and supplements.  Garlic taken in raw form for example has strong antimicrobial properties, as does oregano oil.

3. Strengthen the population of friendly bacteria in the intestinal tract.  Eating yogurts containing a live acidophiles strain or a probiotic supplement will help with this. Of course, unless it is an absolute medical necessity, it makes sense to stop taking antibiotics, but only on the advice of a doctor of course.
