Best Laptop for College Students
When it is time to get the college student in your home a laptop you will need to take your time to find out the best laptop for college students. The thing is that there really is no specific type or brand that can be called the “best”. The reason for this is simply that college students like any other group have individual needs. A student in the physics or computer science departments will need a processor with much more processing power than say a student in the school of Journalism. By the same token the journalism student will want a larger hard drive and a more portable laptop. Essentially there are three groups of laptops to consider. The thin and light, the ultraportable and the budget.
- The thin and light laptop is great but the name is a bit misleading. It is a more powerful laptop, usually having a duel core processor, 3-4 GB of RAM and at least a 200GB hard drive. Some companies that offer good thin and lights are Hewlet Packard and Sony.
- The budget laptop on the other hand is great for families or individual students who do not have a lot of money to spend. These are probably the best laptop for students just starting out. The company with the best budget laptops is Dell. This company uses both Intel and AMD CPU´s, and generally come with a 100 GB hard drive or slightly larger. You will only be getting 1GB of RAM but, unless you are using this machine for streaming movies or playing high res video games you will not have a problem.
- Finally the ultraportable laps are just that. These laptops, like the Lenovo ThinkPad, are great for students on the go. If the student spends a lot of time out of the class or labs they need to be able to carry their laptop with them. These laptops generally have a couple GBs of RAM and a 100GB hard drive. The problem is that there is no DVD writer. You will have to carry an external or use a memory card.
