Cincinnati area’s jobless rate drops below 10% in May

Butler, Hamilton and Clermont’s unemployment rates in May were 9.6%, 9.4%, 9.6%, which was a drop from 10.2%, 9.9% and 10.4% respectively. All the local counties had higher jobless rates in May 2010 than that in May 2009. Clinton and Delaware Counties among the 88 counties of Ohio had the highest and the lowest rates of 16.9% and 7.2% respectively as usual. Kentucky and Indiana’s county data were unavailable.

All the major cities of Southwest Ohio had a drop in unemployment rates. Cincinnati, Mason, Hamilton, Norwood and Middletown had a jobless rate of 9.9%, 7.3%, 11.2%, 10.2%, 10.8%, which was a drop from 10.3%, 7.7%, 11.9%, 10.4%, and 11.5% respectively in April. Similarly, all cities had greater unemployment rates in May 2010 than that in May 2009. Youngstown and Cleveland Heights of Ohio cities had the highest and the lowest rates of 13.3% and 7.1% respectively.
