Finding Cosmetic (Braces) Dental Insurance
If you thought that the only type of dental insurance available to you and your family was insurance for general dentistry, cosmetic dental insurance is also an option. While there is insurance available for general dentistry and orthodontic coverage there is also another type of dentistry and insurance can be used with it as well. Cosmetic dentistry is another type of dentistry and you may see a different dentist from your general dentist in order to get cosmetic dental procedures.
There are certain procedures in dentistry that require a different type of care and fall under a different category. For example, porcelain veneers are one of the most popular types of cosmetic dental procedures. Porcelain veneers are a type of porcelain tooth that is applied to an existing tooth if the existing tooth is very stained, crooked, or decayed and worn down. Porcelain veneers can be applied in almost the whole mouth to recreate a smile that is sub par. For people who feel like they cannot open their mouths because they are self conscious of their existing smile, cosmetic dentistry and porcelain veneers may be a necessary procedure for them to feel comfortable with the way they look when they smile.
Though this is a cosmetic procedure it is not exactly like a breast implant where a person with a near perfect smile can get another set of veneers. The dentist usually decides who he will perform the surgery on and part of his job is to use discretion. There is dental insurance that is available for people who have this procedure done because paying out of pocket for it can be very expensive. This procedure is usually only done on older people whose teeth are wearing away and not on children so the insurance is primarily available for adults.
