Cosmetic Dental Insurance isn’t that Great
You might say that having a cosmetic dental insurance is a good thing. Think again. Insurance companies are in business. They don’t put your concern on top priority because they have to think of their welfare first. I know It sounds pessimistic, but it’s true. Imagine if all of us applied for a cosmetic dental insurance then had all our teeth reshaped, whitened and braced after a year, would the company still earn? I doubt it.
Insurance companies have to protect themselves too. In order to do that, they make stipulations and clauses in their contracts. Most dental insurances offer the basic procedures for free. Meaning, if you need a porcelain crown on a front tooth, they will opt to pay for the least expensive and practical alternative which usually is very unsightly. You wouldn’t want that to happen. Imagine yourself smiling with porcelain fused to a metal crown tooth that has a black line at the gum line after prolonged use. You may think it’s ugly but your dental insurance company wouldn’t care very much. For them, you’ll only get what you’ll need. Period.
Anything cosmetic is out of the question. You won’t get a good cosmetic dentistry bonding procedure for free. Do you need to suffer just because your dental insurance won’t cover the procedure you want? The answer is no. A smile is something we can’t hide easily.
I suggest you pay for the part your dental insurance company won’t shoulder. That way, you won’t have to hate looking at yourself in the mirror every day or try to hide your smile each time you feel like laughing.
It’s really a small price to pay for something as important as your self esteem. The trick here is to read the clauses and terms of your cosmetic dental insurance. You can even have your braces done for free (as a contract incentive if you apply now). Like any contract, you need to review what you’ll be getting and what services you will be paying for.
