Denia in the Costa Blanca
Long before the influx of tourists, Denia used to be a raisin-growing town. Situated in the north of the famous Costa Blanca, Denia has become popular amongst tourists and visitors from all over the world. However, this did not end the planting of raisins. They now remain a local delicacy and are something that must be tasted in order to get the complete flavor of a visit to the small town. When you arrive in the province, you should be to pick up a Costa Blanca car rental fairly cheaply. All the major car rental companies are available at the airport although you will probably get better deals if you can rent a car from the city or town of your choice.
Denia is known as a coastal resort due to its position on the white sandy beaches of the Costa Blanca. It provides an excellent opportunity for tourists to enjoy their holiday on a sunny beach together with many different activities that have been arranged.
Primarily being a fishing village, Denia would have remained so if it were not for the interest of tourists in its beautiful and sunny surroundings. Denia used to be the base for most of the area’s fishing and related activities. During the 1960’s, when tourism began to settle into the region, Denia too became involved in catering to its many visitors by building resorts and hotels. The fishing business, however, did not end but still continues to live on in the from of the many boats being unloaded on the docks. The coast has a fresh fish market where most of the fishermen sell their daily catches.
Although Denia too has its share of historical monuments, buildings and museums, yet, most of its attraction lies in the many water sports that are available. The most striking feature in its historical presence is the castle that dominates the small town. In addition, most of the plazas display large impressive sculptures that heighten the impression of walking through history and culture.
For most visitors, however, the seaside is the most attractive part of this village. Many companies, which operate solely for the purpose, offer fishing trips, cruises and boat rides for visitors. Also popularly in demand are the different sports that are available at the resorts on the Costa Blanca. You can charter a boat and take your whole family on a ride across the beautiful waters of the Costa Blanca.
