Dog Training Collars for Success
With the market full of many different types of dog collars for different types of dogs as well as behaviors, choosing the right one can become a difficult task. Mostly, the choice depends on the goals of the trainers and the behaviors of the dogs, as well as the time commitment towards training. No collar will perform miracles, it is the rapport between the trainer and the dog, and the collar is the tool which can help in the success of the dog. Here is some information on the different type of training collars.
Head collar or Gentle Leader:
These are beneficial to dogs that tend to pull a lot, lunge or jump while on a leash. The dog’s natural tendency to jump or pull is removed while at the same time pressure points are utilized to calm the dog. Also, the coughing and choking is eliminated because there is no pressure on the throat.
Harnesses:
Some harnesses actually encourage the dog pull (think of sled dogs) but with the right one, a good fit and dedicated training, this type of dog training collar can help the dog’s behavior. With gentle pressure, the dog is redirected to stop pulling. Again, choking and gagging is not a problem because the collar is around the chest, not the throat.
Remote/Shock collars:
This type of dog training collar is for times when the dog is not on a leash but needs to still be in control, perhaps if a dog chases cars or incessantly barks in the house. These colalrs immediately correct and/or reward behaviors and with this instant response, the behaviors usually are modified quite quickly.
Again, none of these collars will perform magic modifications to dog behaviors, but with dedicated and loving training, they can greatly aid in the results of dog training. Find more pet info at Some Dog Collars.
