Types of Jade Jewerly

Jade is an amazing stone with a unique history throughout many cultures of the world. This stone has been prized for is mystical qualities, the Confucian virtues of wisdom and compassion and many other qualities throughout the past.

Jade is a name we give to two different stones named nephrite and jadeite. These two stones vary slightly in mineral composition yet are similar in appearance.

Nephrite is a stone which has been utilized and admired by the Chinese for thousands of years. This stone is much more common than its counterpart, jadeite. Though it is not as rare it can still be quite a valuable stone if found in gem quality.

Jadeite is a much rarer form of the stone, jade. This stone is found in far fewer locations and is produced commercially in Burma and few other areas. Due to the embargo on goods in the United States from Burma the price is also much more expensive as it is impossible to import. Jadeite is used in some of the most expensive jewelry in the world because of its vibrant colors and other gem like qualities.

There are many different types of jewelry which is made of with jade. Some of the most popular types of jade jewelry are jade bangles, jade necklaces, pendants, earrings, rings and other pieces of jewelry. When looking to buy jade jewelry for sale you should be aware of a few facts about fake look alikes. Many times people try to sell serpentine, soapstone or even treated glass as high quality jade. There are even some websites around the internet where you can tell just by the photos of their ‘jade’ that it is actually serpentine. You should only purchase jade from a reputable dealer which offers a money back and satisfaction guarantee.

Some of the ways to determine if jade is real can only be done by looking at the stone in person. A common saying is that if you are not sure if it is jade than it isn’t. This is because jade is almost unmistakable when it is a good quality stone, and why would you want a stone which isn’t high quality?

Jade is harder than steel, which means that a knife can not scratch it. Also, high quality jade USUALLY (though not always) is translucent and has a sort of depth where you can see into the stone. Some ocean found varieties of jade are not translucent due to calcium or other types of rinds which occur on the outside of the stone. Also, there are never any air bubbles present in jade, where they will always be present in glass.
