Your first step in using a LED plant grow light it to determine how much and what kind of light your plants need. Often there is a tag attached to the plant when you purchase it that will give you all of the proper growing instructions. If not, you can always research your plant’s information online.
Next, you will want to provide your plants with a mix of red and blue spectrum lights. According to NASA; mixing 80 percent red LEDs with 20 percent blue LEDs is the perfect ratio for successfully growing plants indoors. If you are having difficulties viewing your plants, you can switch a few of the blue lights for white instead.
Next, you will want to find a way to suspend your lights anywhere from 5-20″ above your plants. The height you place your lights, depends on the needs of the plants. You want to make sure that there is enough light that it reaches the edges of the plant, but not too much that there is significant light waste around the plants.
Finally, you need to determine how many hours of light your plant needs. You can connect your lights to a timer so that the lights turn on and off automatically. Some plants like longer days and shorter nights and vice versa.
