Maintaining Permanent Wheelchair Ramps

Most permanent wheelchair ramps require cementing in place in order to provide stable and long service. Concrete is the most used substance because of its unending premise of durability. Other construction materials include wood, and aluminum. The latter is mainly preferred for its sturdy strength and rust free qualities.

Permanent wheelchair ramps built of any material require constant attention, because many of them may be in exposed places where no one pays much attention to them. For wooden structures, treating the material with the right chemical can prevent it from rotting. Steel on the other hand requires galvanization to prevent the effects of weather and moisture on the metal that can lead to corrosion. It is not just necessary to employ these long-term measures. The platform can be well maintained by having a regular cleaner and sweeper which due to permanency in public places can have a person employed just for that.

There are materials that can be placed on the plane like tiles that can absorb any moisture and maintain maximum dry levels of the structure. This is mostly the case where the structures are installed in open spaces like in front of the main entrance of a building where there is no immediate roof. This will also aid in overcoming the fading results of the sun on wood and lighter metals. The tiles can form a protective barrier at the end of the inclined platforms to provide drainage especially where the structure is alongside damp venues. The best methods to maintain the implements however remain with the authorities of the building who make it necessary for the permanent wheelchair ramps to be used for only what they were intended for. They should not turn into conveyor platforms for the comfort of physically fit persons who can end up destroying and staining the surface posing a danger for the real users.
