Perfume Review: Romance Silver Men By Ralph Lauren
This fragrance was launched in 2003, four years after the first masculine version (and five after the first Romance perfume for women). The aromatic style is very different from the original, offering a comeback to classic notes of leather and tobacco, and reminding of the very first Polo from 1978.
The bottle is the same as the one for the original Romance for men, with the only difference in the color of the glass, which is of a lighter gray.
The opening notes are fresher than the original, with a more intense and aromatic citrus note of orange, mandarin and bergamot. There are also dry spices like nutmeg or cardamom, with also a trace of an indefinite note that could be either leather or tobacco (or both at the same time), very similar to the one in Versace perfume pour homme The Dreamer. In the middle phase, this ambiguity disappears and it is a definite leather becoming dominant, with wood, tobacco and musk in the background. On a second level there are also watery spicy notes. As the middle notes evolve, the spicy masculine ones become even more intense and concentrated, and the space is crowded by: nutmeg, leather, tobacco, cardamom and cinnamon.
The final part is dry, with wood, tobacco and incense.
All in all this version of Romance for men is more mature and less fresh, very close to the style of the eighties. Due to its warm notes, this fragrance is more suitable for a winter use, in most occasions and places, from a work environment (especially if the job involves meetings or direct contact with customers), to a night out with friends or in semi-informal occasions like weddings. On the romantic side, it is attractive and projects a honest image, with more subtle notes which will not end up being boring and invite to come closer. The ideal age range is between 25 and 60 years.
