Play Knock Hockey on Your Round Kitchen Table
Whenever the Stanley Cup Playoffs roll into town everyone in North America starts to get a little hockey crazy. There are so many different ways you can experience the great sport of hockey, from watching it on television to playing it in pick up games and on the XBOX to playing with air hockey tables and knock hockey. No matter how mobile you are these days you can still enjoy the basic game of hockey and experience the joy of putting the puck in the net.
Out of all the ways you can play hockey the one that doesn’t get much press is knock hockey. Knock hockey is a board game developed a long time ago that uses heavy checker type pieces of wood and wooden goal pegs. The object of the game is to flick your knock hockey puck from one end of the board into the opponents net, avoiding various obstructions and the other player’s pucks on the way. It is an interesting and fun game, even though it can hurt your fingertips from time to time, and it can be played on a simple round kitchen table.
To play knock hockey all you really need are the pucks and the goal posts. You can play the game on your large round kitchen table without the board because the smooth flat surface of the tabletop will allow you to flick pucks easily across. To really simulate the game it is a good idea to set down obstruction pieces like plastic army men or even dinner utensils. Anything that makes it more difficult to flick the knock hockey puck directly into the opposing player’s net is good.
Back in the day games were much simpler than they are now. These days you need things like video game consoles, high definition televisions, and electricity to have a good time with your friends but if you ever feel like going old school all you need are some good round kitchen table ideas and a couple of knock hockey pucks.
