Choosing a Small Bathtub: Clawfoot vs. Walk In Tubs
For homeowners with small bathrooms there are now a plethora of options when it comes to selecting a small bathtub. In the past, homeowners who had bathrooms that were less than 5 feet wide were forced to deal with either a stand-alone shower or no shower or bathtub at all. Luckily for todays consumer there are a couple of options that make taking a relaxing bath in a small bathroom a genuine possibility.
One of the most common types of small bath tubs on the market today is the clawfoot bathtub. The claw-foot bathtub has a Victorian inspiration and has distinctive lines and adds a touch of class to any bathroom. The primary difference between a clawfoot bathtub and a regular tub is that the claw-foot tub is suspended above the bathroom floor. It has four legs much like a table that lift the tub off of the ground. The plumbing for these tubs can be run slightly differently since depending on where it is being installed it may be advantageous to use either a wall mount configuration or one that extends up from the floor.
In addition to clawfoot options many consumers are also looking into various types of walk-in tubs. These have long been very popular with both the elderly and the disabled since many varieties provide safety features not available in traditional tubs. While these are great for some consumers a new style of walk-in tubs has started to become more popular recently among western cultures. This is the Japanese soaking tub. These tubs have long been a mainstay in Japanese bathrooms and they are now becoming more and more popular amongst Americans.
Whether your choice is the clawfoot or a walk-in, you are sure to have a nice array of options to choose from when selecting a small bathtub.
