What is an Airsoft Shotgun?
An airsoft shotgun is a replica shotgun that uses compressed air and/or mechanical mechanisms to fire a small plastic pellet that is 6 to 8mm in length. The gun will fire this pellet anywhere from 300 to 500 fps (feet per second). The shotgun is part of a line of many replica weapons made by Airsoft and these were developed as training and recreational weapons much the same as paintball guns. Airsoft guns are safer, cheaper, and come in many different popular replica models.
The airsoft shotgun for example can be found in a variety of different shotgun models such as 20 and 12 gauge replicas. They can come with different stocks just like the real ones do such as pistol grips, folding stocks and fixed stocks. Many popular models of handguns like Berretta, Browning and Smith & Wesson also have Airsoft counterparts. The Airsoft models however have an orange tip to alert you of its replica or toy status.
Airsoft guns are safer than traditional BB or pellet guns because they fire a softer plastic ammunition that is not traveling fast enough to pierce skin. Airsoft pellets travel a maximum of about 600 fps compared to the average air powered BB gun that can fire metal ammunition at well over 1000fps.
They are also cheaper than BB guns and traditional pellet guns. An airsoft handgun will cost you around 30 to 60 dollars, perhaps a little more for a metal version or limited edition. A long gun a little over 100 to about 180 dollars. Airsoft guns can be purchased online or they can also be found in sporting goods stores. Almost any popular model from past and present can be found in an airsoft version. Even Airsoft grenade launchers are available.
An airsoft gun is much like a traditional pellet gun however it is designed to be safer by lowering the speed at which the projectile travels as well as the material the projectile is made out of. They come in many different replica models, colors, and with different features. You can find more information about them and other weapons at the Gun Safes Guide.
