Is a White Chandelier the Right Choice?
Although many chandeliers are made of some kind of metal, you can buy them in many different finishes from bronze through to wrought iron. A recent trend has been to have chandeliers in white painted metal which gives the light fixture a very pale finish. A white chandelier like this is a perfect opportunity to introduce a classy aspect to your home while also keeping your decoration low key. Whereas a big brass chandelier covered in crystals can seem ostentatious in the average house or apartment, the neutral tone of the white chandelier means that it can blend into pretty much any style of room and can be used to either stand out as a modest centerpiece or fade into the background based on the surrounding colors.
If you are not sure if a white chandelier is right for your room, just consider the remaining furnishing. White chandeliers go best with pale pastel colors or in a room which has a dark color with a white or cream contrast, for example a black and white room or aubergine and cream one. If you want the chandelier to stand out and be a conversation piece then it is best placed in a room with contrasting colors, whereas if you want it to blend in, it will work best in a pale room.
Although the pale room is both fresh and romantic in nature and the contrast room is more sophisticated, both looks are quite modern in nature. That means that white is probably not the best color lighting for you if you favor a traditional style of room. In that case, you might be better with a bronze or antique brass style chandelier, even if you then kit it out with small white or cream lampshades. Look at the range of light fixtures produced by Quoizel as they have some of the best chandeliers for traditional rooms, although they are quite pricey.
