Why Kennel Flooring Is Essential
It is not too difficult to either buy or build a kennel fairly cheaply. However, there are certain disadvantages to spending too little money on either the construction or purchase of a kennel; certain things may be omitted in order to trim production costs with one such thing often being decent flooring.
Essentials: There are some essentials that every good dog kennel and run should have. Note, this is not as necessary if your dog spends an hour here and there in his kennel while your old aunt, or a repairman are in your home, but they are essential if your dog spends considerable time in his kennel. In summary, a good kennel should be insulated, provide complete protection from all weather elements, be large enough for your dog’s comfort, be comfortable and have good dog kennel flooring. A dog run should offer complete protection for your dog so that they are in no danger of harm from other animals or passersby, it should be large enough for your dog to exercise while in his pen, and it should be built in such a way that your dog cannot dig through or escape and run off.
Flooring: There are many options available for dog kennel flooring. Many times the floor is built directly into the kennel using either wood or whatever material the kennel is built out of. If you have built a larger kennel, however, for a new mother and her pups or if your run area needs to have some sort of flooring put down you may find that wood is not that good of an option.
Basically, if your dog is only going to be sitting or lying on the floor of the kennel, then you do not need to worry overly much about the material it is made from. If your dog will be whelping in her kennel or if the kennel is a larger structure used for more permanent outdoor housing for your dog you may want to put down flooring that is easy to clean, easy to remove from the kennel and that does not absorb odors or moisture.
There are plenty of different kennel flooring to choose from, including kennel decking, instant kennel flooring and rubber matting. Choose something that is both comfortable for your dog and hygienic.
